Mauritius has steadily developed as a destination for mountain biking, and over the past few years, the island has been integrated into the international calendar of regular and recurring MTB events.
Usually, one would think of Mauritius for its paradise-like beaches, but this is not all the island has to offer. The island's interior is characterized by hills and mountains, lush vegetation and beautiful tropical forests with waterfalls, canyons, small dirt roads and footpaths.... the ideal terrain for nice outrides on the mountain bike.
Over the past few years, a number of mountain bike races have become part of the race calendar, offering opportunities for local, European and African cyclists to show their skills on the remarkable, beautiful tracks.
A few races are organized with international support, and it is one of the particularities of these races that riders of amateur level compete on the same tracks as cyclists who have participated in the Olympic Games or World Championships, which adds some magic to this unique experience.
